A Mother with an Unbeatable Heart

I'm 18 years old sitting in the hospital next to my mother who being prepped for her dozenth surgery to change her pacemaker. Pacemaker and battery changes have been a part of our life for as long as I can remember. You see my mother was born with a hole in her heart.

When she was 6 years old she endured her first open heart surgery to patch the hole. During surgery something went terribly wrong and Tari, while alive was given back to her parents with a terminal diagnosis, she would not survive with a heart that only beats 17 beats per minute, it’s simply a matter of time.

Her senior year of High School she met that man she would marry, Scott. It was love at first sight for her, he was tall with blond hair and blue eyes! The two married in 1978 knowing Tari would never have children or live to be 25.

Twenty-three and struggling to climb stairs, they had an idea! They would go to Cleveland Clinic and see if she was a candidate for a pacemaker. In 1980 Tari received her first of many pacemakers. She had her first child in 1981 and her second in 1983.

Today I am 38 years old, my mother lived another 18 years after that day in the hospital and she lived life to the fullest. She learned how to ski, ride bikes and went on countless trips throughout her life. She always cheered on her children at their sporting events, and went with her daughter to 5K’s, ½ Marathon’s and any other fitness thing her daughter was into at the time. Tari lived a full life until September 25th 2019 when she walked in from dinner as Scott took out the recycling, and her heart stopped, she was 62 years old.

Life for this family has not been the same in her absence. Mother’s Day has become a day to honor Tari’s life and this mother’s day her family is working with a village of Sebewaing group to start a non-profit in her name, the Tari Myers Memorial Fund.

This Non-Profit will support a cause dear to Tari’s heart, supporting growth and infrastructure in the Historic Hometown. Places to include maker spaces, stores for families to gather and shop, and to open a restaurant and the old movie theatre.

The first of many fundraisers will be to raise money to start the Non-Profit Alison along with Fuse LIVE a High Intensity Interval Training Studio Online teaming up to host a Virtual Mother’s Day Triathlon with three events. On May 8th at 8:30am EST the event will kick off with Fuse Live’s 45 minute HIIT class, followed by one of Tari’s favorite workouts, a 5K walk/run and finish with an active cooldown to revitalize you for the rest of your day. We invite you to join us in this wonderful memorial of a special mom, the Tari Myers Memorial Non-profit. Thank you!

All proceeds will go to start this non-profit.
